Dr Martin Cook – Management of Novichok poisoning
Dr Cook, Critical Care Consultant, will provide a fascinating talk on the Novichok poisoning which took place in March 2018 in Salisbury, where he works, and major incident preparedness in healthcare.

Ian Kelcey – “A Tale of 3 Murders”
Ian Kelcey is a Senior Partner, Solicitor and Higher Courts Advocate, Fraud, Regulatory & Complex Crime Specialist.
Since qualifying he has been involved in a large number of notable cases and has built up a formidable reputation as one of the foremost criminal law solicitors of his generation. He has been involved in numerous murder cases, has advised and represented clients in relation to corporate manslaughter, and has wide experience tackling complex and lengthy fraud cases.

Prof Jerry Nolan – “The Hillsborough Enquiry”
Prof Nolan is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at the Royal United Hospital, Bath and Honorary Professor of Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Bristol. He trained at Bristol Medical School (MB ChB 1983) and undertook anaesthesia and critical care training in Plymouth, Bristol, Bath and Southampton, and at the Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore in the United States. Jerry is Chair of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), past Chair of the Resuscitation Council (UK), and the immediate past Co-Chair of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). He received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiac Resuscitation Science from the American Heart Association in 2016. Jerry is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Resuscitation. Jerry’s research interests are in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, and post-cardiac arrest treatment – he has authored over 300 original papers, reviews and editorials on these topics.

Martin Forde QC – The Windrush Enquiry (to be confirmed)
Martin Forde QC of 1 Crown Office Row has a practice which covers all aspects of Health Law. He appears regularly in all the Regulatory and Disciplinary tribunals predominantly for practitioners including doctors, dentists, osteopaths, chiropractors and optometrists. He is currently acting as the Independent Advisor to the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

Speaker: Prof Derek Alderson, Emeritus Professor of Surgery and President of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Prof Alderson is President of the Royal College of Surgeons and emeritus Professor of Surgery at the University of Birmingham. He was Professor of Surgery at the University of Bristol from 1997 to 2005 before becoming the Barling Professor of Surgery and Head of Department in Birmingham, a post he held until October 2015. He holds an honorary appointment as a consultant surgeon with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Before moving to Birmingham in 2005, he was Professor of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Head of Teaching in the Department of Clinical Sciences at South Bristol. He has held visiting professorships at the Universities of Edinburgh, Adelaide and Cape Town.
